Through HAC’s catalytic approach—combining political mobilization with tailored technical assistance which started with the 30×30 Matchmaking—Madagascar has significantly advanced its pathway toward achieving its 30×30 biodiversity target. Through the new Biodiversity 30×30 Plan, Madagascar will expand protection from 6 to 14 million hectares of vital terrestrial ecosystems and from 1 to 40 million hectares of marine ecosystems, delivering direct benefits to 3 million people.

Between February and May, the country designated 21 new protected areas, organized two scientific workshops on mapping new protected areas – the first such exercise in over 31 years, established a 30×30 coordination team with high profile experts, and promoted the 30×30 Biodiversity Plan internationally.
