CfN-SPACES: Empowering Nations to Chart a Course for Nature, Ocean, and Climate

SPACES is a global initiative that helps low- and middle-income countries develop costed, nationally led plans to achieve the 30×30 conservation goal—protecting 30% of land and sea by 2030.

Working with governments, Indigenous Peoples, civil society, and technical partners, SPACES integrates biodiversity, climate, and socioeconomic goals through spatial planning, financial modeling, and policy alignment.

The program emphasizes partnership with Indigenous Peoples, local communities, and Afro-descendant Peoples (IPs, LCs, and ADPs), women, and youth rightsholders. With completed projects in Panama, the Dominican Republic, Sri Lanka, and Paraguay—and more underway—SPACES equips countries to implement the Global Biodiversity Framework with rigor, financing strategies, and long-term impact.
