In a significant stride towards global conservation efforts, the High Ambition Coalition for Nature and People (HAC for N&P) and the Government of Seychelles will co-host an insightful event on December 10th, titled “Sharing Experience on Seychelles’ Implementation of Target 3” as a side-event at COP28.
The HAC for N&P, a dynamic alliance of countries dedicated to addressing the interconnected challenges of biodiversity loss and climate change, has recently launched innovative the HAC 30×30 Matchmaking Platform. These tools are designed to assist Member Countries in reaching their 30×30 goals – a commitment to protect 30% of the planet’s land and sea by 2030. One of the highlights of the event will be for the HAC for N&P to introduce and discuss these groundbreaking tools, providing Member Countries with invaluable resources to navigate their conservation endeavors successfully.Additionally, the event will serve as a platform for the Government of Seychelles sharing its experience in the domestic implementation of the 30×30 goals. Seychelles, an archipelago in the Indian Ocean, has been at the forefront of environmental conservation, recognizing the critical importance of protecting its unique and diverse ecosystems.
As a small island nation, Seychelles faces distinct challenges in achieving the 30×30 goals, making its experiences and strategies especially valuable to other nations with similar geographic constraints. The Seychellois government’s commitment to sustainable development and biodiversity conservation has made it a beacon of success in the global conservation community.
During the event, representatives from Seychelles will delve into the nation’s journey in implementing Target 3, providing insights into the challenges faced, successes achieved, and lessons learned along the way. This firsthand account will not only inspire other nations but will also contribute to the collaborative effort needed to safeguard our planet’s natural treasures.
The event aims to foster a spirit of knowledge-sharing and collaboration among nations striving to meet the 30×30 goals. By facilitating discussions on the challenges and successes of Seychelles in implementing Target 3 and unveiling the HAC 30×30 Matchmaking Platform, the event seeks to strengthen the global community’s resolve to address the urgent need for conservation.
As we approach the critical deadline of 2030, the “Sharing Experience on Seychelles’ Implementation of Target 3” event stands as a testament to the power of international cooperation in the face of environmental challenges. By learning from each other’s experiences and leveraging innovative tools, the global community can collectively work towards a sustainable future where nature and people thrive in harmony.
