Safeguarding Nature’s Heartlands: Advancing Areas of Importance for Biodiversity under 30x30

Date: 11th December, 2025, 8:00–9:00 a.m. (EST)
Format: Online

On 11 December, the High Ambition Coalition (HAC) convened a technical webinar focused on how countries can identify and safeguard Areas of Importance for Biodiversity to drive credible, high-quality progress toward Target 3 of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

The session brought together global and national perspectives on strengthening the scientific and technical foundations of Target 3 implementation. Discussions emphasized how Areas of Importance for Biodiversity, including Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs), can support countries in identifying, recognizing, and safeguarding ecologically critical sites as part of their 30×30 strategies. The webinar featured expert contributions from the Key Biodiversity Areas Secretariat, WCS Mozambique, Google Earth Outreach, and WCS Canada. Speakers highlighted global insights, national experiences, and practical tools that can help governments with spatial planning, conservation prioritization, and progress toward 30×30

For those who were unable to join live, or who would like to revisit the discussion, the full recording is available below.
