Co-Chairmanship Handoff at the Fourth Ministerial International Steering Committee (ISC) Meeting

Date: 2nd December, 2025, 9:00–10:30 a.m. (EST)
Format: Online (moderated discussion)

The High Ambition Coalition for Nature and People (HAC) convened its Fourth Ministerial International Steering Committee meeting to take stock of progress toward the global 30×30 target and to set a clear course for the year ahead. Co-hosted and co-chaired by France and Costa Rica, the meeting brought together ministers from ISC member countries, observers, and philanthropic partners.

Discussions focused on reviewing the Secretariat’s 2025 achievements, endorsing the proposed 2026 workplan, new partners, budget, and priorities, and exchanging perspectives on how to accelerate protection of terrestrial and marine areas as the HAC approaches the midpoint to 2030. A dedicated segment encouraged dialogue between governments and philanthropic organizations on strengthening collaboration and aligning efforts toward a successful CBD COP17. The meeting concluded with a formal co-chairmanship handoff, as Costa Rica passed the baton to Nigeria, a planned leadership transition designed to ensure continuity, shared ownership, and sustained momentum in advancing the HAC’s goals.
