Target 3 and 30×30 events at CBD COP17

A practical calendar of side events, pavilion sessions and related gatherings focused on implementing Target 3 of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

The High Ambition Coalition for Nature and People has compiled events at or around COP17 that focus on, or are closely related to, Target 3 and 30×30. The calendar includes discussions on protected areas, OECMs, Indigenous and traditional territories, effective conservation and management, equitable governance, ecological representation and connectivity, marine and inland waters, finance, monitoring and reporting, and other dimensions of Target 3.

What is Target 3?

Target 3 calls for at least 30% of terrestrial and inland water areas, and marine and coastal areas, to be effectively conserved and managed by 2030 through ecologically representative, well-connected and equitably governed systems of protected areas and other effective area-based conservation measures, while recognizing Indigenous and traditional territories where applicable and respecting the rights of Indigenous Peoples and local communities.

When and where is CBD COP17?

CBD COP17 takes place from 19 to 30 October 2026 in Yerevan, Armenia. It will include the first global review of collective progress in implementing the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
